Winter
Ehrwald
Thanks to its reliable snow conditions, Ehrwald is an excellent base for a wonderful winter sports holiday, offering plenty of options for both experienced and beginner skiers. Modern lifts take you quickly up the mountain and can often be used by non-skiers as well. The slopes are well laid out, varied, and suitable for all levels and ages. Besides skiing, you can also go cross-country skiing, hiking, tobogganing, ski touring, or even ice skating in the area. Guaranteed winter fun for everyone!
Skiing
The Sonnenhang is ideal for both children and adults to learn the basics of skiing.
The Alm offers more variety and longer runs. There you’ll also find a funslope, a family park for all ages, and a snow park for true daredevils.
The Wettersteinbahnen features great runs for speed enthusiasts, as well as wide, gentle slopes where you can glide down at a relaxed pace.
The Zugspitz Plateau, located at 2,900 meters, is accessible by a large cable car. Thanks to its high altitude, you can enjoy beautiful, long descents suitable for all levels until the end of the season. Even non-skiers will find it worthwhile to take the trip to the top — the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains are breathtaking, and on clear days you can even see as far as Munich.
Ski Touring
Ski touring is becoming increasingly popular, and the Ehrwald area offers some spectacular routes. You’ll reach places that are inaccessible on foot and where you won’t meet anyone else. Twice a week, a “touring evening” is organized on the Sonnenhang and at the Gamsalm. You ascend with touring skis or a sled, enjoy a delicious snack in one of the mountain restaurants, and then ski or sled back down.
Cross-Country Skiing
The Moos Valley (Moosdal) offers beautiful, flat trails that are suitable for everyone. On the Ehrwalder Alm (1,500 meters above sea level), there’s a high-altitude trail for the more sporty cross-country skiers. You can also make longer tours to neighboring villages and return by train or bus.
Winter Hiking
Hiking is a favorite activity in Ehrwald during the winter season. Maintained trails can be found both in the Moos Valley and in the surrounding mountains. For a more adventurous experience, you can rent snowshoes and even join a guided snowshoe hike. You’ll reach spots where the silence is absolute and the views are simply magnificent.
Tobogganing
Tobogganing is, of course, part of the ultimate winter sports experience. Twice a week, there’s an evening toboggan event on the Ehrwalder Alm. You can sled down the illuminated slope, and the mountain restaurants along the way are open for food, drinks, and live music. In Lermoos and Berwang, the toboggan runs are open during the day, but there are also evening options available there.
Ice Skating
Ehrwald also has an outdoor artificial ice rink, open on various days and evenings for skating. Skates can be rented on-site. Once a week, there’s a curling evening, and ice hockey matches are regularly held for visitors to watch.
